Thoughts and prayers are with those in Fort McMurray this week as the wildfire rages on in the oilsands community. As of last night all 80,000 residents of the city were forced to evacuate and leave their homes behind. According to reports at least 80% of homes in one neighbourhood of the city have been destroyed, and estimates are saying the destruction could be even worse today. Many pictures and videos have been shared by residents leaving the community in the past few days including the video below which was shared to YouTube during yesterday’s evacuation.
Premier Brad Wall announced on social media that Saskatchewan’s head of emergency management has now reached out to Alberta to see if they can be of any assistance. Even though the community is far away and you may feel helpless there is always a way to help! Red Cross is currently accepting donations to go towards relief efforts in Fort McMurray and all residents who have been displaced from their homes this week.
