Earlier today kicked off the 120th running of the prestigious Boston Marathon. I’m not really a competitive runner myself. It’s something that has always interested me but something I’ve never really been able to stick to, so I applaud anyone who has the dedication to stick with it in any capacity from 5 km fun runs to full length marathons and super marathons. When I lived in Weyburn, SK, I had a boss who was very into marathon running and even tried to get me excited about it. He had friends who regularly qualified for the Boston Marathon and he often spoke about the work it takes to qualify for it. Despite differences we may have had at times in the past I can’t express how proud I was when I found out he is actually participating in it this year. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the event, the Boston Marathon is one of the world’s best known road races and actually one of six annual races in the World Marathon Majors which also include a biennial race, the IAAF World Championships Marathon, and a quadrennial race, the Olympic Games Marathon. So it’s basically like the NHL of running if you can make it here!
This year there are 35 people from Saskatchewan running in the Boston Marathon and 12 from Regina. Check out the list below courtesy of www.baa.org
