Today’s story is one that I think a lot more people should keep in mind when it comes to shopping and wishing for their “perfect” engagement ring.
Twenty-two year old Ariel recently shared her experience picking out and purchasing her ring on Facebook. She and her then boyfriend Quinn were eager to get married, but didn’t have much money. She says that she told Quinn not to worry about buying her a ring but that he wanted to anyway and so they went shopping together after their engagement.
While shopping for their rings a salesperson came over and pointed at the rings Ariel and Quinn were trying on saying “can you believe that some men get these as engagement rings? How pathetic.”
Ariel says in that moment she wanted nothing more than to tear into the woman, especially seeing how it made Quinn feel, but instead she responded with, “It isn’t the ring that matters, it is the love that goes into buying one that is.”
“My husband was so afraid of me not wanting him because he couldn’t afford a piece of jewelry. He was afraid that the love I have for him would pale because he couldn’t afford the wedding set I wanted. The world has made it this way and it is so sad. Ultimately we couldn’t wait any longer.. so we eloped. I’ve never been this happy in my life and I couldn’t imagine spending it with anyone else ever. Here I am, Court-House married, $130 ring set, the love of my life by my side and happier than I could ever imagine.”
