Want your kids to start making healthier choices when it comes to what they’re snacking on? It could be all be in the type of advertising they’re exposed to! A recent study of children from McMaster University found that kids who are exposed to TV commercials promoting junk food or fast food were more likely to eat within 30 minutes of watching the commercial and on average consumed 30 more calories than children who didn’t see the ads.
Similar findings were also discovered when children were exposed to positive messages about healthy food! A study from Ohio State University found that school cafeterias which had vegetable super hero mascots saw the number of kids using the schools’ salad bars go up by about triple!
So it really is all in the way you spin it, start to promote healthy food options in the same light as junk food is promoted and maybe you’ll start to see their habits change as well!
