There’s a few different ways to celebrate Halloween! Trick-or-treating with the kids, handing out candy at the door, maybe a Halloween party; this year I went with a scary movie! Turns out your choice in horror movies actually says a lot about you!
Zombie movies – Even though zombies don’t typically seem like the most intelligent characters those who are drawn to zombie movies tend to be people who are interested in a more thought provoking experience rather than just being scared. Often people who choose these types of movies will be prone to talking during the show and trying to figure out what will happen next.
Vampire movies – People are often drawn to these movies for the sex appeal of the main characters. Researchers say these are some of the most popular movies with teens, and rarely do people choose a vampire movie for a good scare.
Slasher movies – There are a variety of personalities that are drawn to this type of movie. Some people find humour in these movies by counting how many stupid things characters will do (like going back into the house, or going into the basement without turning on the lights!), others use it as an experience to conquer their fears. In some cases there are also people who identify with the killer on an emotional level – usually teens who have trouble with anger or aggression at home and school.
Ghost or demon movies – often people who watch these movies do it simply to overcome fears about death. Many of these movies seem very real which makes the experience even more thrilling. Those with a great sense of adventure are often drawn to these movies.
Torture movies (ie Saw) – Oddly enough this type of movie often appeals to the optimist. For teh most part these movies feature a protagonist getting the best of the killer. These movies have the same appeal as a slasher movie, but for some they seem to have a “happier” ending.
