Dwayne Johnson has confirmed he will be behind the remake of “Jumanji” and I have to admit I’m not sure how I feel about this. On one hand if you look at the technology out there today and what production teams are able to do with CGI graphics a remake could definitely make the whole thing seem that much more real. Real monkeys taking the wheel of the police car a real looking stampede with rhinos and elephants charging out of the house and down the street, but at the same time remaking the movie means no Robin Williams. While I would take a remake over a cheesy sequel any day I wonder if there are some things that just shouldn’t be touched. When you look at the work Robin Williams was a part of throughout his career and the countless memories and laughs he created for people of all ages it almost seems wrong to replace his work with something new. I for one look forward to the day I get to introduce my future children to his kids movies. Granted no one can knock them out of the park every single movie, not every single thing was his most amazing work, but you have to admit no one could make a character come alive quite like he did.
In his Instagram post announcing the movie Dwayne Johnson says “shooting starts this fall. Promise to deliver something cool and special.. and not screw the whole damn thing up”, so at least the film is in the hands of someone who wants to do the original justice. Are there any films you think should always be left to the original?
It’s OFFICIAL: Love this script! Big movie news that me and my canine gal Shang are excited to share;) To produce, create and deliver original properties to fans like HBO’s #ballers to this summer’s #CentralIntelligence is one of the best parts of my job. But to take great properties that are beloved worldwide like #BAYWATCH and #RAMPAGE and have the opportunity reimagine their stories in dope new ways to a whole new generation is truly an honor. It’s official. We’ll produce and deliver to a whole new generation a title that I love and is one of my all time favs: There’s games you play for fun… then there’s games that change your life. JUMANJI Working on edging up an already very good script with my @sevenbucksprod team. Up next is meeting with our producer Matt Tolmach and director Jake Kasdan. Shooting starts this fall. Promise to deliver something cool and special.. and not screw the whole damn thing up;). As always I’ll keep you posted. Casting this should be fun! #JUMANJI #JungleLife #JustPressStart #SONYPictures
